Steps to be taken against Ragging

Our Solution

As we all know that "if the roots of a tree r good and if they are in great contact with the soil then it can withstand even the toughest calamities like flood". So for a student's overall betterment it's necessary that his base should be good.

Steps to be taken by the parents from the birth onward

It is well said that we can give whatever shape we want to a wet soil. Similarly a person's childhood is the most important part of his life when he starts learning life, when he starts discovering the world from his point of view. At this time it is the sole responsibility of the parents to show them the right path and give them the perfect shape. Following are the few steps which a parent must follow from the very beginning of the life of their ward.

  • The parent must try to inculcate good habits into their ward.
  • they must tell them Doha’s of Kabir,Rahim,Rashkhan in an easy way and must try inculcate those saying literally.
  • they must tell them the stories of Indian saints and their saying which will increase their knowledge about Indian history as well as grow positive thinking.
  • As the child grows ,the parents must keep an eye on the kind of Children with whom their ward is playing and doing friendship.
  • If their ward is playing with bad children(who have bad habits or can be bad for other children) then they must tell their ward to stop playing with them .
  • Parents must try to inculcate good feelings like “Love for other”,”Kindness”,”Mercy” into their ward.
  • It is really very hard to take out time for their wards for working parents but they must know that their child and his/her future is their top priority.
  • Even if it is too difficult then also it is recommended that parents must sit with their ward at least for once in an entire day and discuss their problems.

All these steps will have an adverse effect on the child and his/her future as this will grow positive thinking in them.

Steps to be taken by the Schools
A school life is very very important and essential for a child and his future. So it is also the responsibility of the school and the teachers to grow good behavior, thinking and mentality into the students.

  • A teacher must be extra careful if she is teaching primary classes as its the time when a child's mentality grows the most.
  • When the child reaches his teenager life ,the teacher should have a friendly relation with the students.
  • Power point presentations on Life skills should be shown by the teachers at least twice a weak as it will grow positive thinking and moral values like truth, peace, love etc.
  • Children Films like “Taare Zamin Par” and “Salaam Bachche “ should be shown time to time.
  • When the child is fully grown that is he is in class 11 or 12,at that time he must be given extra classes on moral value and positive thinking.
  • School must arrange extra classes for student of 11-12 to be taken by various organizations like Brahma Kumari,Sahaj Yoga etc.
  • The school must try to enroll students in various courses like “Art of Living” founded by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar etc.
  • The school must also arrange extra classes to be taken by Anti Ragging Squad.

As Colleges and Universities are places of higher educations so it is difficult for them to arrange classes on moral value. The Institutes can only take precautions such that Ragging does not occur.
These are the few steps which should be taken by the institutes and the students to eradicate this menace.
Steps to be taken by Institutes
  • Rules are already made by the government now it is the duty of the colleges and institutes to supervise these rules. The colleges/Universities must set up a supervising committee to look after the implementation of Raghavan's committee.
  • It will be the duty of the supervising committee to inspect the classes and hostels time to time and strict action to be taken if someone caught red handed.
  • The college/University campus should be fitted with hidden video cameras so that strict supervision can be kept in the corridors and classes.
  • The college must seek the assistance of professional counselors at the time of admissions to counsel ‘freshers’ in order to prepare them for the life ahead, particularly for adjusting to the life in hostels. At the commencement of the academic session the Head of the technical Institution, University shall convene and address a meeting of various functionaries/agencies, like Wardens, representatives of students, parents/guardians, faculty, district administration including police, to discuss the measures to be taken to prevent ragging and steps to be taken to identify the offenders and punish them suitably.
  • The Anti ragging help line phone numbers must be printed out and given to each and every student as well as pasted on the walls.
  • Each batch of freshers should be divided into small groups and each such group shall be assigned to a member of staff. Such staff member should interact individually with each member of the group on daily basis to discuss the problems/difficulties, if any faced by the freshers in the Institution and extend necessary help.
  • The 1st year and 2nd year hostels must be separated completely and no seniors shall be allowed to enter the hostel without permission.
  • The principal must select a student representative who will represent the 1st year student in front of the principal and will discuss the problems.
  • If someone is found ragging then he/she shall be immediately rusticated .
Steps to be taken by Parents
  • The parents must seek the help of a counselor before admitting their wards to tell them how to cope up with Hostel Life
  • Parents should visit their wards from time to time.
  • If their ward is suffering from suicidal tendency or depression then he'she should be immediately taken under custody of a Phsycatrist or Counselor.
  • The parent must visit the supervising committee and discuss with them if their ward is facing some difficulty.

Steps to be taken by Student themselves
  • It is the soul responsibility of the student themselves to raise their voice against ragging. Ragging is something which is not at all tolerable.
  • If someone has been ragged then he or she must immediately contact the anti ragging squad and the higher authorities of the institutes.
  • They must know that Suicide is not the ultimate way and must face the problem with courage
